Natural Healing Methods I’ve Used During My Cancer Journey

After my cancer diagnosis, I began exploring natural healing methods that could support my overall wellness alongside conventional medical treatment. While medical treatment was an essential part of my journey, I also explored natural healing methods that helped me manage stress, support recovery, improve circulation, and promote overall well-being.

I didn’t use these methods to replace Western medicine. I used them as complimentary therapies.

The natural wellness practices below are methods I’ve personally researched and incorporated into my wellness routine.

1. Infrared Sauna

Why People Use It

Infrared saunas use light waves to gently heat the body from within rather than simply heating the surrounding air.

Many people use infrared saunas to support:

  • Relaxation
  • Stress reduction
  • Circulation
  • Muscle recovery
  • Sweating and relaxation support

My Experience

One of the biggest benefits I’ve noticed is the calming effect. Spending 20–30 minutes in a sauna helps me slow down, unwind, and intentionally care for my body. We purchased a red light sauna that we put in our shed, but a lot of newer gyms have saunas you can use.

2. Red Light Therapy

What It Is

Why I Like It

It’s simple, non-invasive, and easy to incorporate into a daily routine. I used this daily after multiple surgeries as part of my recovery routine and found it to be a relaxing addition to my wellness practices. I still use it as a natural healing method.

3. Grounding (Earthing) – FREE!!

  • Gardening with bare hands

4. Cupping Therapy

What Is It?

Cupping uses suction cups placed on the skin to encourage blood flow to specific areas.

It’s commonly used by athletes and wellness practitioners.

Many people use cupping for:

  • Muscle tension relief
  • Recovery support
  • Improved circulation
  • Relaxation

What to Expect

Cupping often leaves temporary circular marks on the skin that fade over several days. These don’t hurt, but look like bruises. I wouldn’t recommend cupping on your back before wearing a strapless dress to a wedding…speaking from experience!

5. Quantum Touch Healing and Energy Work

What Is Energy Healing?

While scientific evidence is still evolving, many people report feeling deeply relaxed, more centered, and emotionally supported after energy healing sessions.

Quantum Touch is a form of energy healing that uses focused breathing techniques, body awareness, and intention to help raise the body’s energetic frequency. Practitioners use gentle hand placements near or on the body while directing healing energy to areas of concern.

My Perspective

One thing I’ve learned on my wellness journey is that healing involves more than just the physical body. Managing stress, finding peace, and creating space for emotional healing can be just as important as supporting physical health.

6. Breathwork – Also FREE!

Why It Matters

One of the most powerful healing tools is completely free.

Intentional breathing can help:

  • Lower stress
  • Improve focus
  • Support relaxation
  • Calm the nervous system

Easy Practice

Try:

  • Inhale for 4 seconds
  • Hold for 4 seconds
  • Exhale for 6 seconds

Repeat for five minutes.


7. Castor Oil Packs

What Are They?

Castor oil packs involve applying castor oil to the skin and covering it with a cloth or pack.

Many wellness enthusiasts use them to support:

  • Relaxation
  • Comfort
  • Self-care routines

Why I Like Them

The biggest benefit for me is creating intentional downtime and rest. I put castor oil on at night and use the cover so my sheets don’t get oily. I also use castor oil as part of my nighttime skincare routine because it leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated.

What I use

This castor oil is definitely worth it. It has a roll on rose quartz roller to save you from the mess of traditional bottles.

Here’s the pack I use on my stomach. I put castor oil on my liver and scars from my surgery. I can tell a difference when I use it daily.


8. Gentle Movement

Movement as Medicine

Natural healing doesn’t always require expensive equipment.

Simple movement can support:

  • Mood
  • Energy levels
  • Overall wellness

Examples include:

  • Walking
  • Stretching
  • Yoga
  • Rebounding
  • Light strength training

My Favorite

Walking outdoors combines movement, fresh air, sunlight, and grounding all at once. I’ve also really been loving rebounding. Right now, I use the mini trampoline my kids had when they were younger, but if you’re looking for one of your own, this one is a great option.


9. Sunlight Exposure – FREE!

Why It Matters

Morning sunlight helps regulate the body’s natural circadian rhythm.

Benefits may include:

  • Better sleep quality
  • Improved mood
  • Healthy vitamin D production
  • Increased energy

Simple Habit

Spend 10–20 minutes outdoors in the morning whenever possible.


10. Prioritizing Sleep – Also FREE!

The Most Underrated Healing Tool

No wellness routine can replace quality sleep.

During sleep, the body focuses on:

  • Recovery
  • Repair
  • Hormone regulation
  • Immune function

  • Consistent bedtime
  • Dark room
  • Cool temperature
  • Reduced screen exposure before bed

Final Thoughts on Natural Healing Methods

If I’m being completely honest, the things that made the biggest difference weren’t necessarily the most expensive.
