Even before my cancer diagnosis, I paid attention to the ingredients in products I used around my family. Over the years, one simple swap I’ve continued to make is homemade bug spray.
I don’t believe we can eliminate every exposure, but I do believe small changes can add up over time. This easy recipe uses a handful of ingredients, smells great, and has become a staple for walks, gardening, evenings on the patio, and family outdoor activities.
Why Make Your Own Homemade Bug Spray?
Homemade bug spray allows you to:
- Choose your own ingredients
- Avoid unnecessary additives
- Customize the scent
- Save money
- Make only what you need
It’s become a staple for walks, gardening, evenings on the patio, and family outdoor activities.
Homemade Bug Spray Ingredients
You’ll Need:
- 3.5 oz witch hazel (You can substitute 1 oz. Vodka and 3 oz. Water)
- 30 drops citronella essential oil
- 10 drops lavender essential oil
- 20 drops tea tree essential oil
- 20 drops peppermint essential oil
- 10 drops lemongrass essential oil
- 20 drops cedarwood essential oil
- 10 drops eucalyptus essential oil
- 20 drops Purification® essential oil (Optional- Purification is a blend of citronella, lemongrass, rosemary, tea tree, lavender, and myrtle essential oils. I personally use it because I enjoy the scent, but you can omit it or substitute additional citronella, lavender, or lemongrass.)
